SUMMER RESEARCH EXPERIENCE FOR UNDERGRADUATES

Overview

LEAP’s summer Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) program offers summer undergraduate research experiences (SUREs) on synergistic innovations in data science and climate science. The REU Program is presented in partnership with the Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science (SOARS) program at UCAR. The Program hosts undergraduate researchers and offers a wide array of enrichment learning and networking opportunities.

Each year, LEAP invites applications from students who will be a rising sophomore, junior, or senior at a college/university in the United States. We invite all students to apply.

Participants receive a stipend for the 10-week program.
On-campus housing and travel stipends are also available.

The REU Program

Each summer, LEAP’s REU Program kicks off with a Momentum Bootcamp, designed to familiarize participants with fundamentals of data science, machine learning, climate modeling, and developing research proposals. **

The Bootcamp is followed by the Summer Research Experience, during which participants apply the skills learned or enhanced in Bootcamp to ongoing LEAP research projects. Students are supervised and mentored by LEAP Senior Personnel and PIs, and postdoctoral researchers.
