Pathways to Engagement

LEAP’s mission is to increase the reliability, utility, and reach of climate projections through the integration of climate and data science. Our mission will be achieved through the following core values:

  • Innovation: Integrate new knowledge and methods to explore, learn and create; 
  • Diversity: Connect across and respect varied perspectives to achieve shared goals;
  • Legacy: Build lasting scientific knowledge and a new research community, so that:

Driven by a collaboration between Columbia University, NYU, University of California-Irvine, Teacher’s College, and University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, LEAP is working with the nation’s top climate research laboratories and major computing organizations to optimally utilize the wealth of data available for climate modeling in order to better predict the future. LEAP also seeks rich relationships with community organizations, government partners, and academic and research institutions in order to exchange a diversity of knowledge, ideas, and expertise about climate adaptation.

Via critical funding and in-kind collaborations, LEAP’s engagement pathways provide diverse opportunities to support the LEAP’s mission. A relationship with LEAP opens doors to connect with the wide array of experts at the LEAP Center, spanning the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, physics, education, climate science, data science, social work, statistics, business, and more. Together, we can ensure that the broadest range of private and public stakeholders will have access to the tools necessary for informed decision-making on behalf of their communities in the face of climate change.

Become a LEAP Donor

General donations are received as unrestricted philanthropic gifts to the LEAP Center. These gifts are used to advance LEAP’s mission, values, and innovative research and work, as well as support LEAP’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.

Industry Affiliates

LEAP’s Industry Affiliates bring critical funding to seed, grow, and sustain LEAP, as well as offer valuable industry perspectives, current issues, opportunities for research engagement and community outreach. Industry Affiliates share LEAP’s mission, vision and strategic goals, and seek to engage meaningfully with our bidirectional knowledge transfer and DEI initiatives.

Knowledge transfer and DEI are central to LEAP’s research and our overarching commitment to reducing climate risk, particularly where climate vulnerability is greatest. LEAP’s Industry Affiliates are aligned with this commitment, and desire to join us in pursuing dynamic responses to pressing climate challenges and moving innovative, practical solutions into the marketplace and our communities in an open and equitable fashion.

LEAP invites industry members to discuss the broad array of ways you can engage with and invest in our Center. We would love to talk with you about opportunities to increase your level of involvement with LEAP and/or craft new partnership pathways.

Community Affiliates

LEAP’s Community Affiliates are community-based, non-profit, and government organizations who join LEAP’s mission and commitment to creating open access to the tools necessary for informed decision-making about climate adaptation on behalf of their communities. Community Affiliates bring to LEAP unique perspectives, knowledge, and experience in addressing climate change and equipping local communities to do the same.
